Falters Fine Meats was established in 1890 by Herman Falter. Herman was born in Germany and moved to the Midwest in his early 20’s, where he learned the trade of butchering. He opened his first storefront on the south side of Columbus, Ohio in 1886. A few years later he purchased 3 acres of land where he prospered to one of the most prominent names in the packing industry. Finally, in 1915 a large brick packing plant was built, which is the same building in operation today. Herman was the sole owner of Falters Fine Meats for the duration of his life and has since been operated by 5 generations of Falters.
